Childhood obesity is out of control in the United States today. Statistics show the number of children between 6 and 11 who are obese have doubled since 1980. Being over weight as a child will lead to an adult having many diseases that could have been preventable if they would have maintained a healthy weight as a child. Childhood obesity can be prevented if you follow some of the simple rules below:

1. First, teach your children the sound rules of nutrition. Start them at an early age eating healthy food. Do not use food as a reward or for comfort. Make sure your child learns to eat only when they are hungry and not as a past time. Don’t let them fall in love with fast food. Fast food is the down fall of so many children and a leading cause for so many children to be overweight.

2. Secondly, teach your child to eat sensible portions. Over consumption is not a way of life. You do not want your child to be super sizing everything from an early age. When it comes to food less is better. If they feel full stop eating. If they are still hungry in a little while, they can have something else to eat later.

3. Next, stress the importance of daily exercise. Too many children today have become coach potatoes. They park themselves in front of the TV or computer and never move. It is recommended that a child has at least one hour a day of vigorous exercise. Make exercise fun, it can be done as a family or solo. Take walks, ride bikes, play games, keep the whole family moving together.

4. Lastly, Make sure your children understand the necessity of a permanent commitment to a healthy life style. They should learn the satisfaction from living a healthy life style. Resulting in your child leading a life full of self-esteem.

1. We all know that children should eat more fruits and vegetables. The tricky part is getting them to do it! The next time you’re at the grocery store, scan the magazines at the checkout. You’ll find magazines filled with recipes to make just for children. Many contain ingenious ways of dressing up fruits and veggies. When a potato turns into a “sailboat”, a child is more likely to eat it!

2. If you eat out at fast-food restaurants, eat at one with a playland. That way, after your child eats, he or she can burn off those calories.

3. Make occassional homeade “happy meals”. Stuff a lunch box with healthy food. Stock up on cheap toys from the dollar store and put one inside the lunch box. Let children know that healthy food can be happy food, too.

4. Give your child chores to do. Raking the lawn or cleaning a room burns lots of calories off! Chores teach your child responsibility, too.

5. “Prizes” are found in many unhealthy foods, such as sweet cereals. Try sneaking a “prize” into a bag of carrots or a box of raisins!

6. Take “takeout” to the park. After eating, you and your children can get some exercise.

7. Be a role model. Keep YOUR weight down, as well.

8. Talk to your children about the emotional impact obesity has on a child. Sadly, obese children may be ridiculed at school. Loneliness and low self-esteem are common in obese children.

9. Explain the physical risks of obesity to your child. Heart disease and diabetes are associated with childhood obesity.

10. If you frequent the movies, eat before you go. Most movie houses lack nutritional snacks. After the movie, treat everyone to a frozen yogurt or a small ice cream cone.

11. Buy your teenager an exercise bike to ride while watching television or chatting on the phone.

Snack healthily. By snacking throughout the day, you’re keeping your metabolism at a high rate and also providing yourself with the energy you need to exercise and go about your day. Here are five common snacks that are ideal for keeping that weight (that you struggling so hard to lose) off.

 1. Snacks high in protein are great for taking the edge off your hungry. Try apple with peanut butter.

 2. Dairy products such as yogurt have shown in studies to help men and women maintain their weight.

 3. Stay simple and fresh with fruits and veggies such as celery sticks, berries, baby carrots, etc.

 4. Flashback to your childhood and eat cereal in front of cartoons…But with one big difference: High fiber cereals actually taste good nowadays! Eat a bowl of high fiber cereal with skim milk for a nutritious and filling snack.

 5. Indulge in you craving for salt with popcorn. Did you know that a lot of popcorn brands are now offering 100-calorie portions? It’s just enough to curb your hunger but not enough to make you feel guilty about it afterwards.

Prevention is they key to any health-related issue. Recognizing symptoms of a problem before it actually becomes a problem defines prevention. There are simple ways to recognize if your body and health are deteriorating. Most health related issues can be prevented and obesity is no exception.

Prevent Obesity

1. Stay active. The most common way to prevent obesity is to live an active lifestyle. Simple activities, such as taking the stairs or walking to the store, can help tremendously. Many people also enjoy going to the gym. A local health club membership can be a wonderful way to stay active and socialize with other like-minded individuals.

2. Eat healthy. The FDA recommends that the average person consume 2,000 calories per day in foods such as dairy, meats, breads, fruits, vegetables and legumes. Tailoring your diet to meet these FDA standards is the most effective way to prevent obesity.

3. Watch your weight. You should weigh yourself once a week to monitor your health. If you notice that you are starting to gain some weight, you should take appropriate measures to lose that weight. Investing in a scale for the home is recommended.

4. Drink water. Many times people will mistake dehydration for hunger signals in the body. The FDA recommends drinking eight to 10 glasses of water per day. Water cleanses and detoxifies all the impurities in your system.

5. Get a physical at least once a year. Doctors advise that adults receive a medical physical on a yearly basis to prevent any health complications. By catching any early complications, your doctor can treat you accordingly.

6. Keep junk food out of your house. The lure of sweet junk food can sometimes be too much to bear and you may succumb to the temptation. Be smart and don’t buy it at all!

7. Only eat when you are hungry. Studies have shown that those who are naturally thin only eat when they are hungry. Only eating when your body signals you to eat can be a great way to prevent obesity.

The word diet does not imply that you are limited to one food item, but rather that a certain category, such as fruits and vegetables, is heightened and centralized in your meal plans. Flush diets are the only type that limit intake to a strict category of foods.

A fruit and vegetable diet does not cut out protein, grains and dairy, but rather lessens them and supplements with more servings of fruits and vegetables.

Purpose
1. Incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet and lowering your intake of saturated fats and empty carbohydrates helps to increase metabolism, improve energy and burn body fat. Replacing unhealthy items that you would normally eat with fruits and vegetables in itself helps to decrease fat intake.

Fruits and vegetables also provide necessary nutrients that the body needs to help clean itself out, such as fiber. A diet sufficient in fiber will make you feel better and more energized. Bodies need energy in order to burn fat, so boosting energy with natural sugars actually aids in weight loss.

Fruits
2. For the diet, you should include two to three servings of fruit in your diet. Fruits contain simple natural sugars, which the body breaks down into fat that is used for energy. These include per serving; an apple, banana or pear; a half cup of strawberries, blueberries or raspberries; slices of melon, or a glass of unsweetened freshly squeezed fruit juice.

Seasonal fruits are best for both freshness and budget. In order for you to get the full nutritional value of the fruit, it must be raw. Cooking fruit breaks down its nutrients, and stewed or processed fruits tend to have sugars and preservatives added to them. Raw, uncontaminated fresh fruits are the best option.

Vegetables
3. You need to include four to five vegetable servings per day in the diet. Vegetables are complex carbohydrates and are more difficult for the body to break down. Vegetables provide a plethora of vitamins and nutrients as well as necessary fiber. Increasing your vegetable intake will also make you feel full longer, thus eliminating the dangerous snacking potential.

The increase in vegetables will help break down sugars consumed through other foods and increase your metabolism rate. Vegetables to consider include broccoli, kale, lettuce, spinach, mushrooms, radishes, beets, carrots, mustard greens, cabbage, zucchini and virtually anything green.

Healthy Diet
4. The fruit and vegetable diet must be aided by a complete healthy diet. Just because you are eating fruits and vegetables doesn’t mean you can supplement it with burgers and fries. Your body needs a significant amount of protein to aid metabolism and keep you moving to burn more fat. Good proteins to consider include chicken, fish, nuts and beans.

Aim at eating mostly whole grain to complement the vegetable fiber. Other types of diets, such as South Beach or Jenny Craig, can be added to the fruit and vegetable diet. The purpose is to lessen the intake of other foods by replacing or supplementing a portion with fruits and vegetables. Consider eating a fruit salad in place of a bowl of cereal, a banana in place of a banana nut muffin for snack, or a cool pear or melon in place of after-dinner cookies.

Dangers
5. It is easy to mistake the title “fruit and vegetable diet” to mean a diet that consists solely of fruits and vegetables. It does not, as eating only fruits and vegetables could be potentially damaging to your health.

Cutting out entire food groups for long periods of time could create a nutrient deficiency that could lead to health problems and in the end, slow your metabolism and cause you to gain weight when you reintroduce them into your diet. Human bodies need a variety of foods to maintain function, thus elimination diets can be dangerous if not supervised by a medical professional.

The creator promises a 9- to 10-lb. loss in just three days by removing toxins from the body, flushing away extra pounds.

“When you eat fresh fruits, vegetables, and lean protein for 36 hours, you go into a fat-burning mode that preserves your muscle mass,” Robb says. The Fruit Flush Diet is also intended for people who may be experiencing bloating, irritability, and fatigue.

Diet Basics
1. Only two steps are required as part of the Fruit Flush Diet. The first day is reserved for the pre-flush. This involves drinking one protein shake every two hours (from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.). In total, five shakes are consumed on day one.

Protein shakes must not contain any artificial colors, casein, calcium caseinate, sodium caseinate, fructose, aspartame, acesulfame-k, acesulfame potassium, evaporated cane juice, sucralose, sucrose, or sugar ingredients.

Each protein shake should be followed by at least 8 oz. of water. At 6 p.m., eat dinner. Dinner includes 3 to 6 cups of raw vegetable salad, 3 to 6 oz. of lean protein or egg whites, and 1 tbsp. of olive oil or flaxseed oil.

Fruit and vegetables are the only foods that will be eaten on days two and three. Eat one serving of fresh fruit every two hours (from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.), followed by at least 8 oz. of water. Each serving of fruit must be approximately 100 calories.

Dinner should once again be eaten at 6 p.m. and consist of 3 to 6 cups of raw vegetable salad with 1 tbsp. of olive oil or flaxseed oil, and one protein drink. Raw vegetable salad may also be topped with half of an avocado and lemon or lime, if desired.

Restrictions
2. Do not consume any other foods or beverages while on the Fruit Flush Diet. Dairy, caffeine, coffee, tea, alcohol, diet and regular sodas, starches, juices, most fats, and all sweets are strictly prohibited.

The Fruit Flush Diet only works if you use fresh fruits and raw vegetables. Cooked vegetables and canned, frozen and dried fruits are not acceptable. Organic fruits and vegetables, bottled or filtered water, and protein powders that contain no artificial ingredients offer the best results.

Considerations
3. If you’re considering doing the Fruit Flush Diet, consultation with your doctor is recommended. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not go on this diet. Possible risks or complications may include rebound weight gain, low blood pressure, weakness or fainting, and nutritional deficiencies. Dieters are encouraged not to exercise during the detox because of the low amount of calories consumed.

Fasting is an old style of dieting that has been reinvented. In the past, fasts consisted of only water, broth or clear tea. Today, fasting has become a healthy way to cleanse the body of toxins, and losing weight is an added benefit.

The average weight loss reported by some fasters is one to two pounds per day. It is recommended to drink eight glasses of water in addition to the five to six glasses of juice daily to keep the body well hydrated. Celebrities have also discovered the benefits of juice fasting to lose excess weight after a movie role.

See your doctor. If you have any health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure or low blood sugar, you should consult with your doctor before starting a juice fast. It is recommended to anyone, regardless of health, to get his doctor’s permission before starting any diet or exercise program. Juice fasting is safer than water fasting and is considered safe when performed under a doctor’s supervision.

There is no absolute time limit for juice fasting but consult with your doctor about what is safe for you. Three days is recommended initially, with longer periods under your health care provider’s authorization.

Get rid of temptations. The hardest part about dieting is having tempting food in the house. Put all junk food and snacks in a box and store away in a closet where it will not be seen or give it away to your local food pantry. No matter if you are fasting for a couple of days or a week, cookies and other sugary or salty snacks can quickly sabotage your weight-loss efforts.

Buy a juicer or blender. Juicers can be quite expensive with the best models costing $120 or more. If your budget will not allow it, the next best thing is a blender. Fruits and vegetables will need to be cut into chunks and pureed. Strain through a sieve before drinking. Store fresh juice in the refrigerator, but consume it within a few hours to retain the vitamins and nutrients.

Buy fresh, organic produce from your local farmer’s market or supermarket. Stores like Sunflower Market, Whole Foods and Wild Oats carry

Drink five to six glasses of juice per day. A serving is six to eight ounces of juice. Spread it out over the day as six meals: breakfast, mid-day snack, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner and evening snack. Do not forget the eight glasses of water in addition to the juice. This will keep you from becoming too hungry, which could tempt you to cheat.

Get moderate exercise. A daily walk for 15 minutes is good for your heart and will not make you light-headed. This is not the time for a strenuous exercise routine, but walking around the mall, in the park or at the grocery store will do wonders for your cardiopulmonary system and aid in weight loss as well.

Every day, a higher percentage of people skipped one meal a day, eat processed foods to twice a day and have serious nutritional imbalances.

Proof of this is the rising number of obesity and related conditions incorrect nutrition, such as anemia. Governments and companies try, with various alternatives, win the battle against these numbers.

Nutritional balance

In theory, a full meal should include carbohydrates, proteins and fats. We must also note that you should consume daily fruits, vegetables, milk or its derivatives, red and white meats or grains in place and at least two liters of water.

This mission is particularly difficult for a person working eight hours a day, spend an hour or two to be transported from one place to another and meet growing commitments.
